Dr. Diego Frias

Full Professor at Universidade do Estado da Bahia

Current position:

Dr. Diego Frias is a lecturer in Program Engineering, Bioinformatics, and Artificial Intelligence within the Information System Course at the Universidade do Estado da Bahia. His ongoing research focuses on analyzing and predicting time series, pattern recognition, viral evolution, and computational models. His work extends to various application areas such as FOREX Market Prediction, Epidemiological Description and Prediction, Evolution of Influenza Virus, Arboviruses and Coronaviruses, Image Recognition in Radiography and Tomography, Image Recognition in Micro-tomography of concrete probes, and Prebiotic Chemistry studies based on Nuclear Irradiation.

Biography:

Dr. Diego Frias earned a bachelor’s degree in Nuclear Engineering in 1983 from the Nuclear Science and Technology Institute at Havana University (Havana, Cuba). He later obtained a PhD in Nuclear Technology in 1986 from the University of Technology in Budapest (Budapest, Hungary). Dr. Frias began his career at the Nuclear Science and Technology Institute at Havana University in 1986, where he served as a lecturer and Chief of the Nuclear Engineering Department until 1995.
Following this, he pursued a PhD in Computational Modeling in 1999 from the Rio de Janeiro State University (UERJ, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and conducted post-doctoral research at the National Laboratory for Scientific Computing (LNCC, Petrópolis, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) until 2001. He then joined the Santa Cruz State University (UESC, Ilhéus, Bahia, Brazil) as a lecturer and researcher in Computing Technology and as the Vice Chancellor for Research and Postgraduate Studies.
In 2008, Dr. Frias became a Titular Professor under Exclusive Dedication at the Bahia State University (UNEB, Salvador, Bahia, Brazil), where he currently teaches in the Bachelor’s Degree in Information Systems.
He became a member of the Computer Architecture and Operating Systems Nucleus (ACSO), where he engaged in research on autonomous robotics until 2016. In 2015, he co-founded the Research Group on Intelligent Predictions and Methods Applied to Time Series (PIMAT) and in 2022, he co-founded the Bioinformatics and Computational Biology Research Group (G2BC).
He serves as a reviewer for several journals and has worked as a consultant for PAHO (Pan American Health Organization) analyzing the dynamics of various epidemics, including monkeypox, measles, polio, dengue, and chikungunya.
